stillness fills the crevices of my day

is there a water lily I can hold

with droplets falling on my body so desolate

I trace the remains of the day

along the edge of the drape

smoothing out its frowns

smoothing out mine

the crickets rave about their day outside

sweating beneath the grass blades

walking out barefoot

my fingers trace the bark of a tree you touched

I can tell you touched it

it stings my fingers

blood grazing my fingers the bark my skin the tree

the lake looks at me questioningly

will I walk into its depths tonight?

the sweat is comfortable in my presence now

breadth filling the air filling my breadth the lake looks away

‘The day was frenzied in your wake, the night shall be still’
