Wiladat: ‘Ali ibne Abi Talib [‘a]13 Rajab

Surely We have given you Kausar,

Therefore pray to your Lord and make a sacrifice.

Surely your enemy is the one who shall be without posterity.

Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (13 th Rajab, 22 or 16 BH – 21st Ramaḍān, 40 AH; September 20, 601 or July 17, 607 or 600 – January 27, 661) was the cousin and son-in-law of Islamic prophet Muhammad, ruling over the Islamic Caliphate from 656 to 661. Ali’s father Abu Talib was the custodian of the Kaaba and a sheikh of the Bani Hashim, an important branch of the powerful Quraysh tribe. He was also an uncle of Muhammad. Ali’s mother, Fatima bint Asad, also belonged to Banu Hashim, making Ali a descendant of Ishmael, the son of Ibrahim or Abraham.

Your authority (wali) is God and His Apostle

and those Believers who perfrom the prayer

and pay alms (zakat) while They are bowing (in prayer).

The Quran (5:55)

Many sources, especially Shia ones, attest that Ali was born inside the Kaaba in the city of Mecca, where he stayed with his mother for three days. According to a tradition, Muhammad was the first person whom Ali saw as he took the newborn in his hands. Muhammad named him Ali, meaning “the exalted one”.

Only Allah is your Guardian and His Apostle

and those who believe, those who keep up prayers

and pay the poor-rate while in (Ruku’). And whoever

takes Allah and His Apostle and Those who Believe

as his guardian, then surely the Party of Allah are

they that shall be triumphant.

The Quran (5:55,56)

It was Friday 13th of Rajab 30 Amulfeel Hazrat Fatima binte Asad, the wife of Hazrat Abu Talib entered the precincts of the Kaaba and prayed to Allah saying O’my protector ease my pain.’All of a sudden the wall of the Kaaba opened up and she, as if by some unseen force went inside the Kaaba and the wall closed. Ali (AS) the youngest son of Abu Talib was born inside the Holy Kaaba. She stayed inside for three days. On the 3rd day she came out through the door and Muhammad was waiting outside. She told Muhammad (SA) that the boy had not taken any milk. Muhammad gave him the first feed from his mouth and afterwards asked his uncle Abu Talib that he wished to adopt the baby. Ali entered the house of Muhammad from the very first day of his birth. Ali’s mother Fatima binte Assad Also lived there who looked after his own son as well as Muhammad(SA) so much so that later the Holy Prophet used to say that she was like his own mother.

Prophet proclaim what has been revealed

to you from your Lord, for if you do it not

you have not conveyed His message,

and Allah will protect you from the (evil designs of) people…

The Quran (5:67)

Khawja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri mentions this fact in his famous Quartet saying that when Ali was born inside the kaaba the Sky and the earth was filled with a light and Angel Gabril announced that a child was born in the house of God.
Maulan Rume in his Mathnawi writes, “ O’one who travels to Najef to visit the tomb of Ali must know the fact that the pearl of the Kaaba lies there to give us security because of our intense love for him.”

Ali (‘a) The First Imam

Whomsoever I am the authority over (mawla),

Ali is also the authority over.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.)

You (Ali) are in the same position with respect to me

as Aaron (Harun) was to Moses (Musa)

except that there is no prophet after me.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.)

Nobody knows Allah except I and ‘Ali.

Nobody knows me except Allah and ‘Ali.

Nobody knows ‘Ali except Allah and I.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.)

I am the City of Knowledge and ‘Ali is it’s Gate.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.)
